Yeah. Maybe a little OCD.
At any given moment, you can be sure I have a certain Google Drive spreadsheet that’s not work-related opened in a tab in Chrome. But what does it say?
1. A section displays my monthly allowance…
This is the discretionary amount I’m allowed to spend per month divided by the number of days left before pay day. This guarantees that I rarely splurge on an item or outing and if I do, I certainly pay for it the rest of the month by not buying things.
2. The number of days I’ve been sober…
Calculation of the days between my last drink and today. I don’t think I’ll do this forever. Jason Vale makes a great point when he wrote about how prisoners don’t count how many days they have been out from behind bars once they are free. I’ll keep up this calculation current until at least the one year mark and then reconsider. For now, I think it’s important to remember that I haven’t been sober for very long.
3. What Bar Method is worth per class…
A monthly recurring membership is $145.00. I take this number and divide it by the number of classes I’ve been to in the current month to ensure that I get my money’s worth. A drop-in class is $18.00 so I have to go at least nine times for the expense to make sense. I tend to go thirteen to fifteen times.
4. Personal net worth…
As I like to make sure it goes up a very specific amount every pay cycle.
5. Books I’ve read in 2013…
I’d like to read 50 to 75 this year. I’ve never tracked reading for pleasure so I’m keeping this current.
6. Number of blog posts left to write in a month..
I write a lot for work and I love it but this space was poorly neglected last year. To get in the habit of writing for pleasure, I’m trying to write about 12 posts each month in 2013. Some posts will obviously be better than others but it’s just practice.
What else? I used to have an area that showed my remaining student loan debt divided by the number of months until my 30th birthday but I’m happy to report that’s all done. Are you wondering if I have OCD yet? I do. Have it. Not wonder.
I love this. I’m a list-maker too. And <3 data. I might have to borrow some of your columns. Also, Google Drive is my favorite thing. I wrote a short book there. And have files and files and files of lists. And I get to share them when appropriate.
Do you have a list of your lists?
I, too, like to track the daily data and as a complete bookworm, Goodreads rocked my world hard. I love that I can keep track of all the books read in one place as well as building my queue of books I want to read. Glad we’re friends over there so that I can follow along with what you’re reading.
Bookworms unite.
Bar method membership calculation is awesome—also works as a countdown. Love that!
Thanks! I love it, very effective.
I would love to see this said spreadsheet
Seriously though! This is like a template for LIFE. I love keeping lists, I am obsessed. But I do not have all the parameters you do and they’re such good measurements. I keep a Trello list of all my books but I think its time I do good reads!
